Drake-SPECSDrake-specs.html

The over head light fixture is made from a piece of laminate with a pattern of jungle leaves with eyes peaking through. Shahn laminated the laminate to a piece of foam insulation. Then he turned it over and put a tiny hole in each of the sets of eyes that was fully shining from behind a leaf. If the eye sets were partially obscured by the leaves they were left whole.

After all the holes were drilled the fixture was again turned over to expose the foam side. There channels were carved between the holes to accommodate the wires from each of the LED bulbs placed in the holes/eyes. We have 75 green, red and orange LEDs and 186 eyes. It was a 3 day chore, the end result is stunning, the power savings huge and the light extraordinary.

Laminating all the layers of the light fixture.

Shahn setting up to drill 186 tiny holes.

93 pairs of eyes waiting to come alive.

After the holes were drilled from the front, using a router, channels were cut connecting all the holes . Each LED was fitted to the hole and wires soldered. 2  separate connections one over the bed and one ove rthe living space.

Tongue in place, roof structure almost complete, on and in the down position. Lift mechanism not yet in place.

This is a marine quality hatch we are using as a roof hatch. It leaks like a sieve as can be seen in the enlarged photo reached by double clicking on this one. The manufacturer is T&H Marine AKA TH Marine or Sure Seal Hatch.

These four pictures are of the construction and finished entryway door

The roof was manually raised in preparation for placement of the lift mechanisms. The cabinet shown here at the front of Drake contains one liquid propane tank and one vapor tank. It will also have a shelf.

The second picture shows the stabilizing bars attached to the tongue.
